GUERRERO JosueJosue Guerrero – 2nd Degree Black Belt in Sport Karate (a form of Tae Kwon Do) Being the second youngest of 10 children, Josue Guerrero grew up dealing frequently with ‘play fights’ from his older brother and sisters. By the age of nine, and with only three years of martial arts training, Josue attained his first degree black belt. At the age of 15, he was promoted to second degree black belt in the art of Sport Karate, a form of Tae Kwon Do. Now at the age of 17, his brothers and sisters no longer wish to fight Josue, as he is also an accomplished Boxer and Wrestler.

Josue presently trains in Karate at home in his personal Dojo about 4 times per week while training in gymnastics at school. In addition, he completes a slew of conditioning workouts throughout the week as well. His main focus is fighting/kumite, but he is also a worthy challenger in weapons and creative forms.

In describing himself, Josue states “I am quite assertive and uncompromising; and, I never give up.  I had been ill a few days before the last NBL world tournament and not aware that I was extremely dehydrated at the time of my first sparring competition.  I pushed to a point that my coach had to physically lift me up from the ground to continue fighting. I ended up in the emergency room after the first three fights.” The following day he astonishingly made it to the finals and took the coveted grand champion title. Outside of the fighting circle, Josue is “generally a happy guy, very easy-going and easy to talk to”.  He gets along with everyone and believes in having fun.

Josue describes a great martial artist as being dedicated and responsible. “The person I admire the most is my dad.  He’s always pushed me to be the best that I can be and has made me a stronger and better martial artist by teaching me to never give up.” His training philosophy is “The more you sweat in peace, the less you bleed in war.”

Outside of sport karate, Josue is an accomplished gymnast at his high school; and, enjoys soccer, basketball, track, wrestling, and boxing. Other hobbies include riding his motorcross bike, playing on his X-box and having fun with friends. Lastly, an understated and low key Josue states “I’m a man of few words.”
